The Malta Medical Students' Association (MMSA) has bought a blood glucose monitor for the Diabetes Clinic in St Luke's Hospital.

The money was raised during a series of activities organised by the association last year to raise awareness about the condition.

During the event, the Malta Diabetes Association offered free blood glucose monitoring while MMSA offered free blood pressure monitoring. Information leaflets in Maltese about diabetes and its complications were also distributed.

Malta has one of the highest incidences of people suffering from diabetes in the world.

Ten per cent of the Maltese population suffer from diabetes and it is thought that there are another 10 per cent who suffer from the disease but have not actually been diagnosed as diabetics.
