Five persons were injured, two of them seriously, in two traffic accidents at Mosta and Birkirkara late on Thursday.
The first accident occurred at about 9 p.m. in Il-Fortizza Street, Mosta when the driver of a Toyota Land Cruiser lost control of the vehicle and was involved in a crash with a Peugeot 106 driven by a 28-year-old man from Mosta.
The driver of the Peugeot, who was freed from the car by members of the Civil Protection Department, was seriously injured but, according to a police report, he was not in danger of dying.
The Toyota Land Cruiser driver, aged 48, from Swieqi, escaped unhurt.
The other accident, which occurred in Valley Road, Birkirkara at about 10.15 p.m., left four persons, including a woman and two children aged six and nine, injured.
It happened when a 59-year-old man from Birkirkara lost control while driving an Opel Astra and was involved in a crash with an Isuzu Gemini driven by a 33-year-old man from Qormi.
The driver of the Isuzu was taken to hospital suffering from serious injuries but was not in danger of dying, the police said.
Three passengers in the same car, a 26-year-old woman from Qormi and the two children, were slightly injured.
A two-year-old girl in the Isuzu and the driver of the Opel Astra escaped unhurt.
