Names were drawn yesterday from among 3,771 applications for 1,103 places available in Church schools during the next scholastic year.
There were 326 fewer applicants than last year when 4,097 had applied. A total of 4,250 had applied in 2002, 4,324 in 2001, 4,192 in 2000 and 4,343 in 1999.
The total number of applicants for kindergarten level this year was 1,411, of whom 431 were accepted. A total of 110 of the applicants, of whom 48 will be accepted, were special cases; 139 were siblings; five came from Church homes and 239 were drawn by lot.
There were 1,121 applicants for pre-grade, of whom 273 were accepted. Ninety-nine applicants, 55 of whom were accepted, were special cases; 103 were siblings; four came from Church homes and 111 were drawn by lot.
There were 1,239 applicants for Year One, of whom 399 were accepted. A total of 192 applicants, of whom 84 were admitted, were special cases; 141 were siblings and 174 were drawn by lot.
