Mr Justice C. Farrugia Sacco, presiding the Tribunal for the Investigation of Injustices, has upheld five applications filed by Bank of Valletta employees and ruled that they sustained an injustice when they were not promoted.

The applications against the bank were filed by Manuel Rizzo, Mary Anne Micallef, Carmelo Vassallo, Gaetano Falzon and Emanuel R. Abela. They claimed that they had sustained an injustice in the period between 1990 and 1992 when they had not been promoted to the grade of Manager 1.

In its judgments the tribunal ruled that the employees had sustained an injustice and it recommended that they be given promotions with immediate effect, backdated to that period. The tribunal further recommended that the employees be placed on the seniority list with backdated effect.

When deciding upon the case filed by Rizzo, the tribunal recommended that he be awarded an additional sum of Lm1,000 as Rizzo had been given unjustified transfers.

Dr Angelo Farrugia was counsel to the employees.
