Lehen il-Qala community radio was recently given the Gharfien Nazzjonali Zaghzagh fis-Socjetà 2003 award.

Education Minister Dr Louis Galea presented a commemorative plaque and a cheque for Lm100 to the radio station's representatives Josephine Xuereb and Lelio Spiteri, during a ceremony, at St James Cavalier in Valletta.

The award is presented annually to youth groups which stand out for their voluntary work. Of the 18 nominations presented, six were shortlisted.

In November 2002, Lehen il-Qala was the first community radio station to receive an award from the Broadcasting Authority for its quality of the programmes.
