Smoke-free parties

I refer to the report on the organisation of a smoke-free party by medical students (April 7).

This has also been labelled as the first ever smoke-free student party, which is not so.

The senior students at St Edward's College have for the last two years been organising smoke-free and alcohol-free discos three times a year.

These discos are very well attended and are supervised by college teachers. These parties have always been very well attended.

There is every scope for entrepreneurs to entice young students to smoke- and alcohol-free parties and so follow in the footsteps of St Edward's and now the medical students.

They will still make huge amounts of money if they provide the proper food and drink in a healthy atmosphere.
