Dangerous traffic lights

The crossing lights at the Blata l-Bajda crossing on the way to Valletta from Hamrun

I would like to point out that the traffic lights at the Blata l-Bajda crossing on the way to Valletta from Hamrun are organised in a very dangerous way. Once motorists pass the pelican lights near the Buttigieg monument they find a set of traffic lights which allows traffic to cross over to the direction of St Luke's Hospital.

Instead of having a light on both sides of the road there is only one on the left. Or rather there are two lights but the one on the right is for traffic coming over the flyover to cross over when traffic from Hamrun stops.

What happens very often is that motorists coming from Hamrun mistake the green light on the right as their own and keep going (when they are supposed to have stopped) to the detriment of those crossing over to St Luke's.

This happens because the two routes cross each other at a very oblique angle. One possible solution would be to place the ambiguous light on the other side of the road so that it could be turned slightly anticlockwise and so be unseen by the crossing traffic. If it is left in its current position a very nasty accident may occur.
