Maltapost acts over foreign mail complaints

Maltapost, which says it is still receiving foreign mail bearing Christmas dates, has taken a number of steps to improve the delivery time for postal items from abroad.

The company said that investigations into the problem resulted in the following actions being taken:

¤ Air Malta has taken the necessary action regarding cargo handlers at London Heathrow to ensure that standards are met.

¤ The French postal administration La Poste has reviewed some recently installed processes at its new facility in Paris.

¤ Royal Mail have implemented further controls at London Heathrow to ensure smoother transit of mail.

¤ Australia Post have taken action to ensure their handlers transit mail with the least possible delay.

Maltapost said it had carried out tests on letters posted locally. It found that 96.7 per cent next day delivery was achieved in February and 98.7 per cent was achieved in March.

"Mail is being consistently cleared and delivered each day and Maltapost is confident that a high level of service is being provided.

"Maltapost also adopts a 'clear floor' policy and all incoming foreign mail is cleared on a daily basis. Meanwhile, all incoming foreign mail is now being back-stamped by Maltapost," it said.
