The Malta Tourism Authority was presented with the Silver Award in the Destination Marketing Organisation (Region) category of the European Chinese Tourists Welcoming Awards 2004.

The award was given in recognition of the MTA's marketing and promotional efforts within the Chinese market.

It was collected by MTA manager Naomi Attard during the China Outbound Tourism Workshop at the International Travel Fair, in Berlin.

Wolfgang Georg Arlt, who introduced the award-winners, said that Malta was the first country to get Approved Destination Status and highly commended the efforts made by the MTA.

The ADS agreement facilitates travel for Chinese tourists to European Union member states.

The awards were set up by the China Outbound Tourism.

Ms Attard said the relatively small Chinese market to Malta has doubled in recent years and the MTA envisaged huge potential for Malta in the language market together with history and culture.
