A project team has prepared a draft preservation proposal and improved access for Tarxien temples.

This follows the signing of an agreement between Bank of Valletta and Heritage Malta, whereby BOV committed just under Lm200,000 for the conservation and presentation of the Tarxien temples over the next eight years.

The team, which is meeting regularly, consists of representatives from the bank and the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage, a project architect and conservation and curatorial staff from Heritage Malta.

The draft project proposal has been circulated to the main stakeholders, including the Malta Environment and Planning Authority, the Malta Tourism Authority, the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage and ICOMOS Malta.

A copy of the proposal has also been submitted to Tarxien local council for feedback.

Heritage Malta was particularly interested in the views of Tarxien's residents as the World Heritage Site is located in a residential area.

Members of the public are encouraged to provide feedback on the project by the end of April. The project proposal is available on line www.heritagemalta.org

Comments and suggestions may be sent by post to the National Museum of Archaeology, Auberge de Provence, Republic Street, Valletta, or e-mailed to Reuben Grima reuben.grima@gov.mt, or Katya Stroud katya.stroud@gov.mt.
