An asylum seeker has escaped from the Safi barracks accommodation centre, the Armed Forces of Malta said.

The army said 27-year-old Asancoh Idrif, who claims to be from Sierra Leone, was found missing yesterday morning.

The AFM operations centre was informed of the escape at 7.15 a.m. and a search got underway.
