Mid-Dlam Ghad-Dawl, an organisation working with prisoners and former prisoners, is collecting signatures for a petition to pressure government to grant an amnesty.

However, the government has not yet discussed the possibility of giving "a generous amnesty to all prisoners", to mark Malta's accession to the EU, as Mid-Dlam ghad-Dawl is lobbying for.

Contacted yesterday, Justice and Home Affairs Minister Tonio Borg said government had still not discussed the issue.
