Members of all committees and boards appointed by the government are expected to submit their resignation, as is standard procedure whenever a new cabinet is appointed.

However, sources said it was highly unlikely that there would be any major changes in boards and committees, most of which were appointed after the last election a year ago.

Joseph Grima, principal permanent secretary in the Prime Minister's office, yesterday sent a letter to all boards and committees of government or parastatal companies, asking them to submit their resignation.

An OPM spokesman said this was the usual procedure because the cabinet appoints board members, and they should submit their resignation whenever a new cabinet is appointed.

The new cabinet's first meeting was held on Tuesday evening after Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi and the other ministers took the oath at the President's Palace in Valletta.
