Motion for appointment of new President

Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi has given notice to the Clerk of the House of Representatives of motions to thank outgoing President Guido de Marco and for the House to appoint Eddie Fenech Adami to succeed him.

The first motion proposes that the House express its appreciation for the useful and dignified way in which Prof. de Marco has carried out his duties towards the people as President of Malta and, while thanking him, wishes him a long and happy life and more service to the country.

The second motion proposes the appointment of Dr Fenech Adami as of April 4, when the post of President becomes vacant.

The motions are due to start being debated on Monday.
