The Labour Party women's movement yesterday hailed the appointment of three women to the new Cabinet, a first for Malta.

Movement president Myriam Spiteri Debono congratulated the three women and augured that their work would benefit the people.

The movement said it appreciated Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi's message to the nation in making all three women front benchers.

"May the confidence shown by the Prime Minister through this gesture be concretely reflected in greater confidence shown by the electorate in women who want to serve the country in leadership positions," the movement said.
