The Nationalist Party will be launching its candidates for the June European parliament elections "shortly", party general secretary Joe Saliba said.
Asked for a list of candidates, Mr Saliba said there was no official list yet but a number of names were being considered. He would not elaborate.
The names are likely to include the former head of the Malta-EU Information Centre, Simon Busuttil, who was asked to contest the elections by Prime Minister Eddie Fenech Adami.
Dr Fenech Adami confirmed that Dr Busuttil would be contesting the elections.
He said he had approached Dr Busuttil personally and that Dr Busuttil has now accepted to contest.
The PN's list is also expected to include, among others, lawyers Ian Spiteri Bailey and Joanna Drake, university professor Joe Friggieri and architect Michael Falzon, a former Nationalist minister.
