Abdul Baset Dabia, a 35-year-old Libyan holding Maltese nationality, was arraigned before Magistrate Antonio Mizzi and charged with a series of offences including that of aggression against police officers at St Julians police station.

Inspectors Joseph Agius, Walter Spiteri and Mario Tonna also charged Dabia, who resides in Zurrieq, with stealing a stereo from a car and with the theft of the cable TV service and electricity from a government street lamp to the detriment of Enemalta.

He was refused bail and was remanded in custody at the Corradino Prisons.

Dr Franco Debono appeared for Dabia.
