It's 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 6 - works are in progress in the two-car parking area at the bottom of Tignè Street Sliema.

There is also heavy traffic along Tower Road heading down Bisazza Street. At this same time, a young local warden stands besides a workman in the parking area talking to him; three/four cars reach the bottom of Tignè Street; at this stage these cars should (according to the traffic sign opposite) turn left down Bisazza Street but no way, these all, repeat all, manage to turn right, yes, that is very correct, right, onto Tower Road.

And all this in the presence of a warden who stood hardly 15 feet away! But this chap was taken up talking to a workman and could not be bothered to control the wrongdoing occurring in front of his very eyes. But why should he bother!

Sliema council please note - the council is expected to take over and look into this and similar happenings that take place at this particular section of Tower Road on a regular basis.

Moreover, would not the installation of traffic lights at the bottom of Bisazza Street possibly help to reduce the regular traffic jams which are mainly caused, it is felt, by the crossing at this same place?

This particular spot is a bottleneck indeed! But why do motorists coming down the one-way Tignè Street persist in turning right into Tower Road when the traffic sign facing this exit clearly indicates that such traffic has to turn left into Bisazza Street?

One suggestion worth considering: An extension of the pavements at the junction of Tower Road and Tignè Street could possibly control such law-breakers. Such an introduction would also prevent two/three particular cars from being parked, facing the wrong direction in this one-way Tignè Street if you please, at the corner with Tower Road. This has been going on for a long time, without any police officer, or warden, managing to put things in order even here, if ever an effort was made!
