The Ninth European Conference on Epilepsy and Society is being held at the Dolmen Hotel Resort, in Qawra between today and Saturday.

The three-day conference is being held in conjunction with the 2004 National Epilepsy Conference of the Caritas Malta Epilepsy Association and the Department of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, University of Malta. Over 250 delegates from Malta and Europe are attending.

Epilepsy is the most common neurological brain disorder, affecting about 3,000 persons in Malta.

Many advances have been made on its causes and several new medicines are now available which control seizures in over 80 per cent of the sufferers.
