Form V students in area secondary schools performed miserably in SEC exams in English, Maths and Maltese last year, figures given in parliament show.

Just 3.4 per cent of boys and 11.4 per cent of girls got grades of between one and five in English; 8.5 per cent of boys and 12.6 per cent of girls had similar marks in Maths and 5.6 per cent of boys and 17.2 per cent of girls in Maltese.

The information was given by Education Minister Louis Galea in reply to a parliamentary question by Labour MP Evarist Bartolo (MLP).
