There were a number of historical sites in Marsascala, such as St Thomas Tower, Torri ta' Mamo and its adjacent chapel, the Three Crosses and the Roman Tomb, and Marsascala was also a fishermen's port, the Association of Marsascala Shopowners said.
The association has complained that a recently introduced tourist bus service, the Visitmalta bus, did not visit Marsascala. It was subsequently incensed by the Malta Tourism Authority's reaction, which implied that Marsascala did not have important visitor attractions.
The association also pointed out that when it came to financial contributions to the MTA, the locality was considered to be a "Tourist Main Area" on the same lines as Valletta, St Paul's Bay, St Julians, Mellieha and Mdina.
