An unusual prayer meeting will take place this evening as Maltese university students join young people from EU acceding countries to pray with the Pope through a live satellite link.

The meeting, which starts at 5.45 p.m., marks the second European university day promoted by the European Bishops' Conferences CCEE and COMECE on the theme: Christ, Hope for Europe.

Pope John Paul II is to preside over the prayer encounter in the Pope Paul VI Hall at Vatican City while young people all over Europe will be able to join in through live links.

University chaplain Fr Jimmy Bartolo is inviting students and other young people to attend. Those interested in attending must be seated by 5.30 p.m. and the public can follow the event through a live broadcast on PBS.
