Alternattiva Demokratika has welcomed the Lm400,000 in storm aid money that Malta will be receiving from the European Union in view of the serious damage incurred in the September floods.

AD said its candidate for the European parliament elections, Arnold Cassola, had asked the European Commission if Malta was eligible for funding from the solidarity fund established after the flooding in Germany, the Czech Republic and Slovakia in 2002.

AD said a statement had been made by the Maltese government saying that Malta was ineligible for such funding. But Commission officials then confirmed that as an acceding country, Malta was indeed eligible.
