A mouth-watering array of timpana, lampuki pies, rabbit, hobz biz-zejt, kannoli and qubbajt are among the foods representing Maltese cuisine at the Malta Tourism Authority's third Mediterranean Food Festival being held at the Eden Ice Arena, in St Julians.

The festival, which is open until Sunday, was opened yesterday by Tourism Minister Francis Zammit Dimech.

Set in a typical Maltese village layout designed by Oscar-nominated designer Peter Howitt, the festival features ethnic outlets reflecting Mediterranean cuisine.

A number of Mediterranean countries are also being represented through their gastronomic traditions. The festival includes the traditional Maltese banquet in which guests are invited to participate in a typical old style banquet re-enactment.

There is also an entertainment programme featuring re-enactments and ethnic dance and music of the Mediterranean.
