Charged with multiple car thefts

Five men aged between 17 and 23 were yesterday charged with stealing and damaging a total of 13 cars and breaking into another 11 cars between them.

Joebert Schembri, 19, of Hamrun, Malcolm Cutajar, 19, of Qormi, Mark Joseph Pace, 23, of Hamrun and two 17-year-old Hamrun boys pleaded not guilty to stealing, damaging and breaking into cars between October 24, 2003 and March 3.

They were granted bail against a personal guarantee of Lm2,000 each.

Inspector Stephen Mallia prosecuted.
