Alternattiva Demokratika said yesterday all national feasts should be treated with equal importance by the government because each marked an important date in the history of the country.
Replying to a letter sent to AD chairman Harry Vassallo by Labour secretary general Jason Micallef, AD said it had criticised the lack of agreement on one national day, where five now existed.
"We are against the lack of agreement on which of the five national feasts should be deemed most important and we ask your party to cooperate in this regard."
Insisting that the 25th anniversary of Freedom Day should be adequately celebrated, Alternattiva said the country did not need to spend a lot of money. "We need a new way of celebrating this feast - one which unites the people."
Last week, the Labour Party had said the government's programme of events for Freedom Day was "shameful", confirming the political partisanship of the Nationalist government.
