It is a known fact that the number of vehicles on our roads is increasing every day. Driving is becoming a nightmare with traffic jams practically everywhere. I do understand that finding a solution to this problem is easier said than done since it is obvious that one cannot stop anybody from buying a car, thus worsening the already existing confusion.

Most of the roads in Malta should be one way since in my opinion they are not wide enough to allow dual traffic lanes. This even more so if you happen to have cars parked on both sides of the road.

A case in point is Victory Street, Zabbar. This street is definitely not wide enough for four cars. Someone has to wait at the far end until all the cars from the opposite direction make way. It is not the first time that this takes quite a long time, especially if the traffic on Labour Road is stopped due to the traffic lights on this main artery. I therefore cannot understand the procrastination on the part of Zabbar local council.

All the traffic directions are already in place to have Victory Street a one-way street incoming from Labour Road to Zabbar. All traffic proceeding out of this area should be directed through Bajada Street thus avoiding this congestion. What worries me is that the traffic directions have all been put up but covered in black plastic bags for the past weeks and I wonder when this one-way system is going to be put into operation. Could someone from Zabbar council please inform us of what is stopping them from taking further action to have Victory Street made one-way?
