Having just returned from another two weeks in Malta with my father, aged 82, in his wheelchair I was very unhappy to see that Malta is treating its disabled visitors very badly.
We went on a route bus from Valletta to Bugibba and when we arrived at the bus station we were pleased to see that it was one of the new wheelchair fitted buses. We were less impressed when we got on the bus as the driver had fitted rubber sheeting over the floor at the doors so that the ramp for the wheelchair could not be raised. He also did not ask the passengers to vacate the wheelchair space!
We returned to Valletta on an older bus and the driver could not have been nicer, stopping at the bus station with the front of the bus over the pavement to let my father get off easier.
Perhaps some of the bus drivers should go to Portsmouth in England to see how the drivers look after disabled passengers.
Also the carnival was great but the hoarding blocked off every pavement ramp round the arena. Could we not have some temporary ramps to make life a little easier?
