Two members of the Malta national team at the recent World Chefs Championship in Istanbul came away with gold, silver and bronze medals.
They were Jeffrey Vella, sous chef, and Jesmond Borg, pastry chef, from the Kempinski San Lawrenz Resort and Spa.
A total of 20 teams consisting of 500 chefs from 20 countries participated in 53 categories of the cooking competition.
Mr Vella contested the buffet, senior team practical, chefs grand prix, fish dish, ethnic dish and six plated starters, while Mr Borg contested categories covering senior team practical, cook and serve, celebration decorated cake, floral sugar craft as well as petit fours.
An international jury viewed and evaluated the contests and awarded Mr Vella three gold medals, a silver and a bronze as well as a merit certificate.
Mr Borg was awarded two gold medals, two silver and one bronze.
