The third Malta Tourism Authority Mediterranean Food Festival is expected to start tomorrow at the Eden Ice Arena, in St Julians.
Set in a typical Maltese village layout designed by Oscar-nominated designer Peter Howitt - the set decorator of films like The Mummy and Braveheart - the four-day festival will offer a strong representation of ethnic outlets which will reflect Mediterranean cuisines.
A number of Mediterranean countries will be represented through their gastronomic traditions. The Maltese cuisine will be represented by a variety of traditional food items - timpana, lampuki pies, rabbit, hobz biz-zejt, kannoli - and sweets such as qubbajt.
The festival will include the traditional Maltese banquet where guests are invited to actively participate in a typical old style banquet re-enactment.
The festival will also include an entertainment programme featuring re-enactments as well as ethnic dance and music of the Mediterranean.
Rainer Mitze, a well-known German TV presenter, will make a presentation on Maltese food on Friday at 7 p.m.
