I never wanted Floriana residents to be booked before a residential parking system were introduced but I still do not agree that non-Floriana residents should be permitted with impunity to park on yellow lines and dangerous corners to the detriment of residents.
As regards the profit from the warden service, this is the policy of other councils. In fact, in the case of Floriana, which has a very low budget, money is needed to repair the footpaths which are being ruined by excessive parking of cars whose owners work in offices in Floriana and take up all the parking slots.
As regards cheap electioneering by allowing everyone to break the law, whether on parking or excessive speed, I challenge Mr Torpiano to stay with me for half an hour, a few metres from Floriana local council and see how right I am that most drivers do not obey the slow signs and, thus, endanger the lives of people. Is this what he wants? Why does he not insist on water transport and lifts from both harbours to Floriana, like I always do, and thus lesson the 80,000 cars passing through Floriana belching smoke?
Finally, before concluding, I again invite Mr Torpiano to use the wardens to enforce the law on traffic, garbage and pigeon feeding that are ruining the environment of Floriana.
As regards parking facilities for residents he should know that I insisted continually on this and even made suggestions on how this is possible.
