Opposition deputy leader Charles Mangion said yesterday that new PN leader Lawrence Gonzi should act for March 31 to be given the same importance as other national festivities and not be the source of division.
Speaking in parliament on the adjournment yesterday, Dr Mangion said March 31, 1979 was a very important event in the political development of Malta and its 25th anniversary this year deserved to be given the importance it deserved. Furthermore, the country could not be divided further even through discrimination between national days, such as Independence and March 31.
Dr Lawrence Gonzi as new leader of the Nationalist Party, had spoken against the need to reduce political confrontation and he should urge the National Festivities Committee to give March 31 the same importance as Independence.
