Interprint workers were facing an uncertain future because the government had failed to make the necessary investment in the company, the General Workers' Union charged in a statement yesterday.

The union said the company was passing through a bad phase due partly to the fact that the government had ignored an action plan put together by the management aimed at seeing it through difficult times.

Production costs had not been trimmed with the result that certain work was being farmed out.

The workers were making sacrifices and it was not fair that employees were laid off in order for the company to register a profit.

The government should bear the responsibility of having burdened Interprint with costs that it was unable to shoulder. It should provide alternative employment to those workers it wanted to lay off, the union said.
