The University of Malta Academic Staff Association (UMASA) held their annual general meeting on Tuesday, when it approved the administrative and financial reports for 2003, as well as amendments to the statute of the association enabling UMASA to be registered as a trade union.

The assembly also approved the appointment of new auditors for the association, and approved UMASA's position on a number of current issues at the University that concern the academic staff. Elections of the new UMASA council officials will be held in the coming weeks.

UMASA is the association that promotes the individual and collective interests of the academic body at the University. It has a rapidly growing membership base that currently numbers over 340 University academic staff members.
