President Guido de Marco reiterated his commitment to keep on working for peace between nations and faiths. He was speaking at the presentation of a book, I Am Jewish, by Ms Shelley Deutch Tayar, two years after the death of American journalist Daniel Pearl. The American Wall Street Journal correspondent was decapitated by fanatics in Pakistan on February 21, 2002, with the words "I am Jewish" on his lips.

Daniel's father, Judea Pearl, set up a foundation for peace through musical knowledge and communication between all faiths. Many Moslem Christians and Jews are on its board of directors, including Queen Noor of Jordan. President Musharraf of Pakistan is an advisor.

The Daniel Pearl Foundation asked 150 Jewish luminaries of all nationalities from around the world to contribute an article to the book. Nobel Laureate Elie Weisel, the Lord Janner of Braunstone, Chief Justice of the British Supreme Court Lord Woolf, Shimon Peres, Kirk Douglas, Larry King and President Kazav all contributed articles to the publication as well as Ms Deutch Tayar, who ended her contribution to I am Jewish with these words:

"I can hear Daniel Pearly say: 'We Jews say in greeting Shalom or peace; the Arabs say Salaam Aleichum or peace be with you. Let's work to unite these pieces through music science and discovery. After all, the only way to destroy your enemy completely is to make him into a friend."
