Four Cospicua men were yesterday conditionally discharged for assaulting and injuring a police constable during a football match in Ta' Qali two years ago.

Roderick Gatt, 21, Kevin Farrugia, 22, Charlot Lautier, 23, and a 19-year-old, whose name is not being published because he was a minor at the time of the commission of the crime, pleaded guilty to assaulting and slightly injuring PC Mark Bilocca during a football match between Cospicua and Vittoriosa on May 19, 2002.

Gatt also pleaded guilty to hurling hard objects, threatening the police and uttering obscene words.

Magistrate Lofaro noted that Farrugia, Lautier and the teenager had a clean criminal record.

Gatt was conditionally discharged for two years, Farrugia and Lautier were discharged for a year and the teenager was conditionally discharged for three months.

Inspector Mario Bonello prosecuted.
