Shining example

I wish to congratulate Josè Herrera for the article "Politics and religion" (February 28).

It is a good sign that our politicians in our Catholic island take interest, not only but express their opinions on important documents issued by the Church authorities, especially on subjects which are being discussed at the time.

Knowing Dr Herrera personally and with him declaring himself a practising Roman Catholic I urge him to take up his pen more frequently and write in local newspapers on Church documents, the Pope's speeches and, especially, on the social teachings of the Church.

I wish to take this opportunity to congratulate also Tonio Borg and Carm Mifsud Bonnici from the Nationalist Party who regularly have been writing on Catholic themes in the weekly newspaper Lehen is-Sewwa.

May other politicians from all political parties follow the example of these three MPs for this augurs well that our parliament reflects the beliefs of the majority of the Maltese.
