Alternattiva Demokratika Zghazagh said it believed a decision about the Verdala golf course should be taken as soon as possible by the Malta Environment and Planning Authority.
"All projects and applications for development that violate the Mepa structure plan should be refused, thus the Verdala golf course should be refused," it said, adding that apart from the structure plan the proposed golf course also violates the 1995 Church-state agreement.
The section said there are no studies that prove the connection between an increase in tourism and golf courses. "Apart from this, the Verdala golf course will mean the loss of invaluable agricultural land as big as Sliema, an adverse impact on the lives of farmers and the use of huge amounts of water."
