A 26-year old man from Valletta was yesterday jailed for another 30 months for a string of thefts, including from his mother and girlfriend.

Omar Mallia had already been given a seven-month jail term on February 17.

He was charged with nine thefts which all took place between March and April last year.

Mallia was found guilty of theft of furniture to the detriment of his mother Alfrida, of defrauding Vincenza Grixti, Brian Azzopardi, Elwanda Micallef and Jason Mallia by selling stolen goods to them and telling them they were his. He was also found guilty of stealing mobile phones to the detriment of Johan Chetcuti and Hilda Urry.

Mallia was also found guilty of stealing a computer belonging to Rita Slennon and stealing a statue from the Millennium Chapel to the detriment of Fr Hilary Tagliaferro.

He was also found guilty of stealing Lm700 worth of gold and silver from his girlfriend, Christina Grogan, and of stealing HiFi equipment belonging to Rita Verbraeken.

Inspector Ramon Mercieca prosecuted.
