Wonders of wonders, the Labour Party press seems to be flying the flag of John Dalli for prime minister. One is a bit surprised at that, considering that he is the only person with a record of standing up to them. So why are they doing it?
The answer is obvious. The PN voters will get the idea that the MLP would like to see Mr Dalli at the helm, so they will not vote for him. One only hopes that these voters are intelligent enough to call the MLP's bluff and still vote for Mr Dalli as Lawrence Gonzi is certainly no match for facing up to them and the General Workers' Union, as these last years of his deputy leadership have shown.
Dr Gonzi saying that he is a decision-maker is perhaps this year's best joke. In fact, the man had a three-year stint to establish himself in his position and, yet, in all his discussions of any importance he had to have the help of two of the very few ministers who have any family jewels, namely Mr Dalli and Austin Gatt. These last two, when a problem faced their ministry, no matter how important, always faced it alone and never asked him to assist them.
