Directorates-General in the Commission

What is the role of the directors-general?

The administrative departments of the European Commission are divided into Directorates-General. Each Directorate-General is given a portfolio. There are in all, 24 Directorates-General. Several of these Directorates-General may come under the authority of the same commissioner. No Directorate-General is placed under the president of the Commission. Like their commissioners, directors-general do not represent their respective countries.
