I refer to Ivan Faurè's letter (February 14) about the disastrous state of the roads in Madliena.

A couple of weeks after last September's storm, I asked the Swieqi councillor responsible for the Madliena hamlet road works if Swieqi local council had any plans to fill in the numerous craters which were caused by the storm in Madliena's roads. He told me he was aware of the problem and that patching up works were soon to be carried out. Five months later, our roads are still in the same disastrous state and Madliena residents have to daily swerve their cars continuously in order to avoid as much as possible the holes in the roads.

It is like a Playstation game, with the difference that our cars are getting a real battering all the time. I have in the meantime written twice to Swieqi local council's executive secretary about this state of affairs but, to date, no reply has been received about the possibility of patching up works, let alone a new and long overdue laying of tarmac, as Mr Faurè and all the Madliena residents rightly expect.
