Dun Karm Psaila Boys' Secondary School, Zebbug, recently held its Prize Day. The prize-giving ceremony was preceded by an interesting programme performed by students from the school under the help and guidance of staff members.
In Pinocchio, the school language teachers, together with a large number of students, came together to present this famous story using all the languages taught in the school. The play was followed by the school choir singing various songs.
A gymnastics display was presented by a group of students under the guidance of the school PE teachers. Finally, the school kept its tradition of presenting an original one-act play, Il-Holma tal-Milied, written and directed specially for the occasion by Robert Scalpello, a teacher at the school.
During his speech at the end of the ceremony, the school head, Mr Robert N. Borg, spoke about various initiatives being undertaken by the school to understand and develop the needs and skills of students attending the school. He also mentioned a questionnaire sent to all parents and which has helped the school develop its priorities in setting out its school development plan for the coming years. Mr Borg also described the introduction of literacy classes, set up with the help of the Education Division, to support students having difficulty in basic literacy skills.
Education Minister Dr Louis Galea, the Opposition education spokesman, Carmelo Abela, MP, the president of the school council, Mr A. Abela, as well as high-ranking officials from the Education Division attended the ceremony. The prizes were awarded by Dr Cecilia Borg, recently appointed director-general of the Education Division.
