It is disheartening to see a beautiful country road like the one leading from San Pawl Tat-Targa (It-Telgha t'Alla w Ommu) to Salina, being turned into a concrete absurdity! Why are the road sides being lined with concrete "pavements"? Concrete pavements in the countryside are an eyesore. A country wall and a concrete pavement clash. Has the road contractor never heard of environmental landscaping? The sides of the road should be lined with trees and greenery. Is not the Rabat Road beautiful, lined with pines, shrubs and grass?
How about bicycle lanes instead of horrible concrete? Tourists do like to cycle around our beautiful island.
Cycling from Naxxar to the Bugibba area would provide an excellent means of pollution-free travel.
Also, when we get our next ravaging rainstorm, will this road just be transformed into another river?
Further up the road, on the new by-pass to L-Iklin, centre/side strips have been filled with concrete!
All this unnecessary use of concrete just makes the project more costly (and ugly!) and longer to finish. Stop this concretising madness!
