Gas price hike under fire

The increase in the price of gas would have a negative impact on thousands of Maltese families and on industry, Labour MPs Joe Mizzi, John Attard Montalto and Marie Louise Coleiro said yesterday.

Mr Mizzi said that the increase in the price of gas cylinders was proof of the Nationalist Party's "deceit". The PN had promised it would not be raising the cost of living before the election but gas had just gone up by between 6c and 35c.

Dr Attard Montalto said this would be tough on the self-employed, who used gas in their work. The new expenses would eventually translate into a price increase for consumers.

Ms Coleiro said the rise in gas prices showed the government's insensitivity. It is taking measures which badly affected the quality of life of many families and also hit jobs.
