Mario Monicelli's 1959 superb war film La Grande Guerra will be shown at the Italian Cultural Institute in Valletta on Thursday at 6 p.m.

The film won the Golden Lion Prize at the 1959 Venice Film Festival and was nominated for an Oscar in the same year.

It focuses on the adventures of two infantrymen (Alberto Sordi and Vittorio Gassman) who find themselves assigned to an Italian regiment fighting the advancing Austrian army in Caporetto.

The film will be preceded by a short presentation by Dr Gloria Lauri-Lucente.
