May I bring to the attention of readers the highlights of a brief tracer study conducted recently by ETC on its clients job placed in the last three financial years - October 2000-September 2003. These clients were job placed after registering themselves as unemployed on ETC's registration books. (ETC's financial year is October-September.)

The study is on 9,078 full-time job placements effected by ETC and involving 7,201 clients, males and females coming from all parts of Malta and Gozo. Some of the clients were job placed more than once. Clients are referred by ETC executives in Hal Far and its outposts to vacancies notified to the corporation by the employers.

The tracer study shows that 4,791 of these clients (67 per cent) were still in employment up to the end of December 2003 while 790 (11 per cent) of them were registering themselves again as unemployed and seeking full-time employment on ETC's parts 1 and 2 of the unemployment register.

The rest, 1,620 clients (22 per cent) were neither employed nor registering for work on ETC's books. ETC will follow the latter soon.

Employers can place their vacancies with ETC by either phoning 2220 1221, faxing on 2220 1812, via e-mail at vacancy@etc.org.mt or by accessing our website www.etc.org.mt.

On the other hand, job seekers, whether registered with ETC or not, can seek a full- or a part-time job by using one of the following methods: Phone 8007 6500, access our website - www.etc.org.mt and view our vacancies list which is updated daily, visit one of our job centres in Zachary Street, Valletta (Monday to Saturday), St Anne Street, Mosta (Monday to Friday), St Edward Street, Il-Kumpless Acceess, Vittoriosa (Monday to Friday) and St Francis Square, Victoria (Monday and Tuesday).

Besides looking for a full-time job, at ETC's job centres unemployed job seekers can: Seek information on training programmes run by ETC and other institutions; seek job-seeking help, such as how to write a CV or a job application and have internet access and e-mail service in search for a job.

Citizens already in employment may visit our job centres to register themselves on the part III of the employment register to find an alternative full-, part-time or temporary job; acquire the employment history at a nominal fee mostly used to apply for social housing and seek information on training programmes run by ETC and other institutions.
