The Martinu Quartet with pianist Christopher Langdown will be presenting a recital at the Manoel Theatre, Valletta, on Monday at 7.30 p.m.

Lubomir Havlak (first violin), Petr Matejak (second violin), Jan Jisa (viola) and Jitka Vlasankova (violoncello) first came together at the Conservatoire in Prague and have since appeared with great success on the international scene.

They are hailed as one of the best Czech quartets and specialise in the works of Czech composers.

The programme features Edward Elgar's heavenly Quintet for Piano and Strings in A Minor Op. 84, Vilem Tausky's deeply moving Coventry, and Anton Dvorak's Piano Quintet in A Major Op. 81.

Mr Langdown appears regularly with the Martinu Quartet and performs widely both as soloist and chamber musician throughout the UK and across Europe.

Reservations for the recital may be made from the Manoel Theatre booking office on 2124 6389, fax: 2123 7340, e-mail to bookings@teatrumanoel.com.mt.
