On March 15, 2002 I asked The Times to publish a letter to Swieqi council regarding the disastrous state of the roads in Madliena. Two years down the road (excuse the pun) I write again to seek the attention of the council.
Anyone entering Madliena from either Gharghur, Swieqi or Bahar ic-Caghaq would notice that tarmac has been laid exactly up to the dividing line between these localities, so it is obvious that Swieqi local council intentionally do not want to service the roads of Madliena.
I would like to ask the Swieqi mayor to take a car ride with me, starting from the road leading from Busietta Gardens, along Triq il-Madliena, Triq Wied Id-Dis, Triq Ta' Stronka as well as many other unmade roads that still have no pavements or tarmac.
If the mayor so requires I will be happy to provide a site plan of the surrounding areas showing the well-laid roads in High Ridge, Swieqi, Gharghur, Bahar ic-Caghaq etc. to show clearly that it is now time to spare some tarmac for the Madliena area.
In the meantime I have no choice but to keep hoping for my "fairy godmother" to show up. I once believed in the slogan mhux pjaciri imma drittijiet (rights, not favours).
