The Federation of Industry and the Union Haddiema Maghqudin yesterday discussed the possibility of reducing the hourly operating costs currently faced by industry.

The meeting, held at the request of the FOI, was attended by its president Anton Borg, deputy president Adrian Bajada, vice president Joe Pace and director general Edwin Calleja and union president Gaetano Tanti, its general secretary Gejtu Vella, and vice-president Joseph S. Vella.

The meeting discussed industry's competitiveness, the importance of staff training and the proposed social pact.

The UHM proposed bringing the government auditor's report to the discussion of the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development.

The officials also agreed that the two organisations would collaborate further at MCESD council and committee levels.
